Details: Product Description Learn to make your own quiet place somewhere with this inspiring journey inside tranquil cabins and handmade homes, from the creators of the wildly popular Cabin Porn phenomenon. Cabin Porn began as an online project created by a group of friends to inspire their own homebuilding. It has grown into a global phenomenon, attracting thousands of submissions from fellow cabin builders and a passionate audience of millions interested in simple, efficient homes and the beauty of nature. Cabin Porn: Inside invites readers into these handmade homes to discover rooms of warmth and simplicity, connected by the universal desire to bring a simple building to life in harmony with the land around it. Each of these tranquil getaways is a lesson in living simply and joyfully. Here you will find hundreds of examples of what makes a cabin: the small details that enable their dwellers to live pleasantly and sustainably, as well as the mistakes and adaptations that reveal what builders must learn while creating their own homes. Perhaps most touching is the evidence that these homes have hosted charming and memorable evenings for the people who worked together to build them. Full of spellbinding spaces of warmth and ingenious simplicity, Cabin Porn: Inside is an invitation to the cabin of your dreams and to the serenity of a simpler life. Review "Sequels are all too often diminished versions of their predecessors. This isn't the case here: Cabin Porn Inside is, if anything, more engaging than the original-- which is saying something since the latter has sold over 300,000 copies and is in 7 foreign languages. From California to Australia to the Bahamas to Russia, here are some 75 cabins, shacks, houseboats and treehouses for inspiration and motivation." -  Lloyd Kahn, author of  Shelter " This book is truly a feast for the eyes and fuel for wanderlust as it takes the reader around the world and inside various cabins, treehouses, and one truck hut. Warning: reading this will send you into an Airbnb rabbit hole in search of your next getaway." - Powell's Books About the Author Zach Klein is co-founder of DIY.org, a worldwide movement to help any kid any where learn any skill. Zach co-founded Vimeo, serves on the advisory board to Dwell, and published the first post to the Cabin Porn blog in 2009.

Below we explain the difference between each license category, and a quick way to determine which one you might fall into.

In either case, one plan purchased equals one Den built, and you must buy multiple licenses to build additional Dens.

Residential License

  • You are a home owner or a property owner. Not a business.
  • You’re using your own social security number when filling out forms

You’re building your Den…

  • as an accessory dwelling to your existing house
  • as a primary structure on land you own as an individual
  • to host guests or family, or as a studio or workspace
  • to Airbnb it a few times to cover your basic costs
  • to Airbnb it full time to generate some extra cash for your family

Commercial License

  • You are a LLC, C-corp or other business entity
  • You are a general contractor
  • You are a real estate or hospitality developer
  • You own one or multiple hotels, event spaces or similar
  • You own one or more residential properties as a commercial entity
  • You’re using an EIN number when filling out forms

You’re building Den(s)

  • on behalf of a client as a certified Den builder
  • as part of a residential development
  • as a way to drive interest in your new hospitality project
  • as a way to add units to a pre-existing hotel, events space, or commercial property
  • to fuel growth in your small to medium scale Airbnb business

Why are Commercial Licenses more?

As a certified Den commercial license owner you're getting:

  • Designs that have been proven to attract attention
  • Designs that command premium nightly rates
  • Licensing costs that can be paid back quickly based on rental rates
  • Licensing costs that are far more affordable than compared to hiring a traditional firm
  • [Optional] Den Marketing that supports your project

We've made it easy to build a cabin

Buy the plans

In order to begin building your Den cabin in nature, you need to start with a set of plans. You can't unlock the rest of the process without them.

Get them approved

Take your plans to your local building department to ensure your build is compliant with all local regulations, and get your plans approved.

Plan your build

Need to find a contractor, or want to wrap your head around how you'll frame the wall of the cabin? Our detailed plans precisely inform all these conversations.

What does it cost to build?

$153/sq foot with labor included

We encourage all our customers to plan for a construction cost of at least a cost of $153 per square foot (the national average). This cost assumes the use of labor, and that you’ll be working with a team of carpenters, plumbers, and electricians to build your cabin.

Start with the right set of plans

Do you know who are the three most important people that will look at your building plans?
